Animation Degrees

A degree in animation could open the door to several exciting career opportunities. Animation has always been part of entertainment culture, from the classic Disney motion pictures, to the revolutionary animation coming from Pixar. Careers in marketing, advertising and game design are also possible with a degree in animation.

It is up to you to decide which degree is going to be the right choice for you. Animation degrees include:

  • Associate’s: With an associate’s degree in animation, you will have the skills you need to begin a career as an animator. Your artistic talent will be honed while you learn the different styles and methods of animation. Once you complete the animation program, check out careers as a staff animator, or continue your education and pursue a bachelor’s degree.
  • Bachelor’s: A bachelor’s in animation will take about four years to complete, and provide an in-depth study of animation practices and methods. You will be trained in classic stop motion animation techniques, as well as cutting-edge software such as Final Cut, Adobe Flash, Premier, and Quicktime.
  • Master’s: After completing your bachelor’s degree in animation, you may want to continue down the academic path to a master’s. Students who obtain a master’s degree in animation will have studied multiple types of animation, had extensive training on animation software and are prepared to enter the industry at a relatively high level. Many masters programs also provide training within a company in the animation industry as part of the curriculum.
