Environmental and Social Sustainability Degrees
The newly formed environmental and social sustainability programs cropping up in business schools across the country are shifting emphasis in from the bottom line to what has been dubbed the ‘triple bottom line.’ This new concept takes ‘people, planet and profit’ into consideration, and is revolutionizing the way students think about business. Working conditions, global impact and profit outlook through sustainability are just a few topics covered in these programs.
- Master’s: If you’re thinking about enrolling in an MBA degree program, check out the ones that specialize in environmental and social sustainability. These programs have become increasingly popular due to increased awareness of industry’s impact on the environment and society. Students will learn how a business can still be competitive while taking into account its effect on the environment. There are a relative few programs that offer this type of additional education, but the list is steadily growing. Graduates of this degree program can pursue similar careers to a typical MBA, although some companies will prefer the additional training.
- Doctorate: This advanced level degree program is even less common than the master’s, and takes a theoretical look at business and environmental accountability. Graduates of this degree program can seek employment as high-level business executives, college professors or researchers.
There are also practical scientific-business degrees in a special category called professional science master's:
- environmental science
- bioenergy
- applied systematics
