It is up to you to decide which degree is going to be the right choice for you. Finance degrees include:

  • Associate’s: This degree is intended for those who have an interest in business and finance and would like to know more. A two year degree program is an excellent way to get your feet wet, without committing to a more extensive degree program. Associate’s degree programs will cover a basic study of finance including banking, accounting, economics and risk assessment. Possible careers for the graduate with an associate’s in finance are bank clerk, financial planner and credit analyst.
  • Bachelor’s: A bachelor’s in finance will provide a general study of business, finance, investing and accounting. Students who complete this degree program will be equipped to enter the financial industry as an entry-level employee. From there, the graduate may continue advancing within a company, or continue on with higher degree.
  • Master’s: A master’s degree in finance will allow students to study specific areas of interest more closely, and will prepare them for more advanced professional positions after college. There are several job prospects for the master of finance graduate including investment banking, hedge fund managing, corporate banking, and several others.
  • PhD: Students who wish to continue on to this level of education will become experts in their field after graduation. They will be competitive job candidates at large corporations and banks, and may also pursue a career in an academic setting.
There is also a practical "financial mathematics" degree in a special category of degrees called professional science master's. Learn more about these growing intensive programs here.
