Electronics Technology Degrees

A degree in electronics technology usually provides a basic understanding of the principles of electricity and electrical components. Typically a two year program, the electronics technology degree is often also the first two years of a more advanced computer or electrical engineering degree program. A degree in electronics technology is an excellent way to learn the basics and begin a career in the field, or receive education in the basics before continuing to higher degree levels.

  • Computer Service Technician Diploma– This program will prepare students to troubleshoot and repair electronic peripherals and accessories. This can be used as a stand-alone certification for entry-level employment, or as a way to add to an existing computer technician background.
  • Certification: These programs provide training in a specialized area of electronics technology. Those looking for an education in a specific field, or those who require additional certification for their career should consider a certification in electronics technology.
  • Associate’s: This degree program can be completed in as little as 18 months, and will provide students with hands-on training in circuitry, networking and electronic devices. The associate’s degree program will qualify graduates to pursue entry-level positions in a broad range of industries. From there, experience and on-the-job training will allow graduates to advance to higher positions and better pay.
  • Bachelor’s: These four year degree programs usually cover the fundamentals of electronics technology toward the beginning, and allow students to customize their study in the third and fourth years. Students may choose electrical engineering, computer engineering, design or many other concentrations within the bachelor’s degree program. After graduation students may enter the workforce in the area of their focus, or continue on to a master’s or doctoral degree computer engineering or electrical engineering program.
