Internet / IT Security Degrees

A career in Internet or IT security begins with the right degree. Each degree will offer a specific focus and level of proficiency, so choose one that will best prepare you for your dream job. Professionals in this career can expect an exciting work environment, a lifetime of education and a relatively high salary outlook.

Internet/IT security degrees include:

  • Associate’s: This two-year degree program will prepare graduates for entry-level careers in Internet security, computer forensics, network security or other cyber security-related fields. This is the perfect degree for someone who is curious about a career in Internet security, but not ready to commit to a four-year degree program. After completing the associate’s level degree, graduates may also enroll in a bachelor’s program, which is necessary for some higher-level Internet security positions.
  • Bachelor’s: This four-year degree is the one most commonly held by Internet/IT security professionals. The degree offers access to employment in both the public and private sectors in many different industries. The bachelor’s program will provide students with an in-depth study of computer forensics, operating systems, code writing, firewalls and network security.
  • Master’s: This high-level degree program is usually pursued after completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Graduates will be qualified to pursue employment as mid- to high-level Internet/IT security professionals, and will have studied advanced topics in information technology and computer science.
  • Doctorate: A specialization within a computer science degree, the digital systems security doctoral program will train graduates to anticipate and solve forthcoming digital security concerns through technical training and critical thinking. Students who complete the program can expect a positive career outlook, including high-level digital security positions, professorships or research positions.
