- One-Year Vocational Certificate Program – Only useful for those already within the medical field, this certificate is viewed as proper education and training by employers. Most who go for this option are trying to improve their marketability with training in sonography.
- Associate’s – The associate’s is the most common route to take for a diagnostic medical sonography degree. The first year is comprised of core courses dealing with human biology, communication, and medical terminology. The second year is dedicated to a particular focus within diagnostic medical sonography and includes hands on experience.
- Bachelor’s – The bachelor’s degree is a less -common path for diagnostic medical sonographers but is offered in some schools. Most hospitals or clinics will provide the extra training that would be gained in a 4-year program which may be why the 2-year associate degree is more common with diagonostic medical sonography degrees.
