Dialysis Technology Degrees

So you’ve decided you want a career in dialysis technology but aren’t sure which path is best for you. Before making any decision, it’s crucial that you do your research to figure out which path is right for you. A degree in dialysis technology is a great way to get a foot in the door of the medical world and also could present some flexibility in future work environments.

There are several levels of degrees in dialysis technology, including:

  • Diploma - Dialysis technology diploma programs typically take less than a year to complete and provide the student with an introduction into the world of dialysis technology. Upon receiving the diploma, a student could opt to try to enter the workforce or continue the education and get an associate’s.

Certification can be done either by the state or a national dialysis technician credentialing board like the Board of Nephrology Examiners Nursing and Technology. Typically certification should occur around eighteen months after employment.
