Law Enforcement Degrees

If you’re considering a degree in law enforcement, you have several options from which to choose. Research the careers that are in line with your interests, and find out which degree would be most helpful in achieving your goal.

It is up to you to decide which degree is going to be the right choice for you. Law enforcement degrees include:

  • Associate’s: Generally a two year program, an associate’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice will provide access to a variety of entry-level positions in corrections, security, law enforcement or the court system. Graduates of this degree also have the option of continuing on to a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement.
  • Bachelor’s: This degree will consist of a more comprehensive study of law enforcement, including criminology, forensics, and criminal justice technology. This degree if often a concentration within a criminal justice degree. Graduates of this degree program will have the option to enter the workforce as entry- or mid-level employees in a variety of private companies and public agencies.
  • Master’s: A master’s degree in law enforcement can speed up your career advancement in lieu of work experience. This program generally follows completion of a bachelor’s in criminal justice or law enforcement, and provides a broad study of criminal justice related subjects, as well as a focus on specific areas of interest. This degree generally precedes a career in law enforcement administration.
