Facebook Will Write Your Ideal Resume, Submit it to Employers | Job Genius

April 15, 2010 by Joel Milani

Facebook, which has earned a well-deserved reputation for being a procrastination machine, has a few new third-party features that might actually encourage productivity.

Via UWIRE PR: The recently launched Job Genius Facebook app will help job seekers build a resume, submit it to peers for review and post it on employment websites.

Veechi Corp, a Silicon Valley based “college success platform,” is the entity responsible for the Job Genius application that coaches users through the resume building process. It has a clean, simple, almost OS X-esque user interface, and will pull relevant information directly from your Facebook page (hopefully using appropriate discretion). Work history, education information and personal info are automatically ported into the resume template.

The application then takes you through the document, injecting tips and suggestions during each step of the process. A tip from the “objective” section:

A two or three line statement on the position you seek. It provides employers with information about your career goals and allows them to read and interpret your resume more quickly and intelligently. Make this a career (not just a specific job) objective. Shorter and impactful is best.

Do:
Be specific if you can be
Be concise and to the point
Focus on what job fits you best
Reflect the employer’s perspective, not yours

Don’t:
Focus on what you want from the job – focus on your fit for the job

Example: An entry level accounting position where my cost accounting concentration can be utilized, with the opportunity to advance in financial management.

The idea behind this new app is to help young job applicants paint a more accurate and complete picture of themselves. By highlighting important areas to focus on, and suggesting the inclusion of information that might have otherwise been left out, Job Genius can help applicants can put together better resumes, and hopefully get an interview.

We’ve talked a lot about technology and education on this blog, and while Facebook has been pegged as the arch-enemy of productivity, this new app could be a useful tool for the young job-seeker.
